Sudanese woman held for smuggling gold

Based on information and passenger profiling, the woman was intercepted and her baggage checked thoroughly.

Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Hyderabad Customs seized 287.5 gms of gold from a Sudanese woman, who attempted to smuggle the yellow metal in the form of assorted jewellery concealed in her innerwear and footwear on Wednesday.

According to officials from Hyderabad Customs, a woman with a Sudanese passport arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RIGA) from Dubai (FZ 435) in the wee hours. Based on information and passenger profiling, the woman was intercepted and her baggage checked thoroughly.

Two gold bars of 999 purity weighing 233.2 grams and 22 carat gold weighing 54.3 grams in the form of assorted jewellery were found in the innerwear and footwear of the accused.

The gold valued at `11 lakh was seized by the Customs authorities and a case was registered against her, said the officials.
