Anti-CAA JAC convener forced to leave Tibbi college

Students of the college have been demonstrating after classes at the college premises for 43 days now.

Hyderabad: The convener of the Telangana-AP Joint Action Committee against CAA & NPR, Mushtaq Malik, was forced to leave Nizamia Tibbi College without addressing the agitating students under pressure from the South Zone Police.

Students of the college have been demonstrating after classes at the college premises for 43 days now. On Wednesday, Mr Malik went to the college to encourage the students. But, he was not allowed to address the students.

The police had gone to the college before Mr Malik’s arrival and started pressurising the principal, Dr Ahsan Farooqui, not to allow him to address the gathering as no permission was sought for the programme.

The principal gave in and requested Mr Malik to cooperate with the management and asked him to refrain from addressing the students because, he said, it would create problems for the students!

Mr Malik assured him that he had no intention of creating any disturbance and would not address the students.

Later, speaking to the media, Mr Malik said he was there to encourage the students, but the South Zone Police had raised objections. “I do not want to disturb the peaceful protest of the students and create problems for the management. Police do not want that the peaceful protest continues further. Students complained that they were harassed by the local police. Police officials are seeking their contact numbers and residential addresses. JAC and I stand with the students. I do not know on whose instance our police want to curb the protest,” Mr Malik said.

He questioned why the police is interfering in the affairs of a college without being invited in by the college management. He appealed to the general public not to cooperate with the enumerators for the National People’s Register.
