Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Tuesday directed the city police to present before it a person called K. Venkata Ratnakar, who was allegedly kept under illegal detention by the Bowenpally police for the past three days in a civil and financial matter.

A division bench comprising Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice T. Amarnath Goud was dealing with a habeas corpus petition by Mr Ratnakar’s wife K. Shirisha who sought directions for the release her husband who was in detention with the Bowenpally police.

The petitioner’s counsel contended that Mr Ratnakar had been summoned to the police station by the Bowenpally inspector on February 14, in financial matter. The police took him into illegal custody for more than three days, counsel said.

According to the petitioner, the Bowenpally inspector and sub-inspector refused to divulge any details about Mr Ratnakar’s detention and allegedly told her to bring Rs 15 lakh to settle a financial dispute that her husband was involved in. When she expressed her helplessness, the police allegedly asked her to secure Rs 6 lakh to Rs 7 lakh to settle the case
