Surya Kiran grounded after Hawks collide

Bengaluru: A part of the aircraft wreckage damaged a building in the ISRO colony in Horahalli, charring it in part. An eyewitness, Dilip Kumar, said he was returning from hospital when he heard a big explosion and then saw a part of the aircraft wreckage fall near a house. "I noticed a pilot landing in a parachute within 10 minutes and civilians, police vehicles and IAF personnel arriving at the spot," he recounted.  

The accident site has been sealed and the wreckage was removed by the Indian Air Force. DGP ( fire services), M N Reddy said he visited the spot and saw no civilian injured or major damage to any house in the ISRO colony. "The fire was suppressed completely," he added.  

This is the fifth crash of an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft in the last 20 days. The last one claimed the lives of.three pilots, Squadron Leader Samir Abrol, Squadron Leader Siddharth Negi on February 1, besides Wing Commander Gandhi. The IAF has set up a court of inquiry to investigate the Surya Kiran accident.
