Strict action against murderers, says Kerala CM

Not only legal action, organisational steps will be initiated against such elements, the Chief Minister said at the Cabinet briefing.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday reiterated that stringent action would be taken against culprits and associates involved in the murder of two Youth Congress leaders in Kasargod.

Not only legal action, organisational steps will be initiated against such elements, the Chief Minister said at the Cabinet briefing. After speaking about the 1000 days in office and the government programmes lined up for the next week, the Chief Minister referred to Kasargod murders.

He rebutted the charge that CPM had planned the twin murder. Anyone who understands the basics of politics would not indulge in such acts especially when LDF jatha is passing through the district.

Pinarayi said directions had been given for nabbing the persons involved in the incident. If those involved in the incident are found to have links with the party then they would face not just legal action but organisational as well. This has already been made clear by state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.

“CPM does not encourage violence. Our party has faced several brutal attacks. Our party knows fully well what it is like to be attacked. We have experienced great pain,” he said.

Pinarayi said the CPM had witnessed with grief and sorrow, the loss of many party men in such brutal attacks. But they are not desperate to kill others, they are not attempting to kill anyone. Our party has not stood with violent attacks. On many occasions the CPM has demanded space for functioning. There is no need to rake up those stories,” he said.

The Chief Minister said on occasion when the party came under attack it had always mobilised people to fight back. “Our party depends on the people. We will not approve of any action which is against the people,” he said.

Guv seeks report

Governor P. Sathasivam has sought an urgent report on the police investigation into the murder of two youth Congress workers near Periya in Kasaragod on Sunday night. The Gov-ernor’s action follows a meeting held with him by Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.

Mr Chennithala told the Governor that the families of the victims were shattered by the murders. He also alleged that the law and order in the district had deteriorated since the post of ADGP North was lying vacant for the last six to eight months after the retirement of Raje-sh Diwan. Not finding a replacement for Rajesh Diwan was a serious la-pse, he said and express-ed concern over the del-ay in nabbing the accus-ed. The Governor tweeted that he had sought a report from the CM.
