PM Modi to visit Amethi on February 27

The PM may also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for various projects, Mr Agrahari said.

Amethi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Amethi, the home turf of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on February 27, a BJP leader said Tuesday.

The PM is likely to visit the ordnance factory in Munshiganj in Amethi and later address a public meeting, BJP’s convenor of Amethi Lok Sabha constituency Rajesh Agrahari said.

The PM may also inaugurate and lay foundation stones for various projects, Mr Agrahari said.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had defeated BJP’s Smriti Irani by a margin of over 1.07 lakh votes, retaining the Amethi seat.

On Tuesday, Mr Modi addressed two meetings and launched development projects worth '3,000 crore during the visit to Varanasi, the second in a month to his Lok Sabha constituency ahead of the parliamentary elections. He hit out indirectly at Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav for “mocking” the high-speed Vande Bharat train from Varanasi to Delhi after it developed a snag, saying they had insulted the engineers involved in the project.

Laying the foundation stone for the Ravidas Janmasthali area development project in Varanasi, he said caste discrimination is an impediment in achieving social harmony. “Guruji had said that there should be no discrimination on the basis of caste. Till it is there, people cannot connect with each other,” he said.
