Nellore registers growth in agri, industrial sector

Action plan ready to improve PCI by 15.28 per cent by 2024.

Nellore: Nellore district stands sixth with Rs 1,56,106 of per capita income during 2017-18 in Andhra Pradesh, but the figure is better than the all-India average of Rs 1,12,835 and AP average of Rs 1,42,054. According to planning officials, the district is targeted to achieve 15.28 per cent growth by 2024.

Planning department officials are confident of realising that target, while pointing out that the per capita income of Rs 1,56,106 in 2017-18 was an increase of Rs 67,729 (76.64 per cent), over the period of 4 years (Rs 88,377 in 2013-14), with an average growth rate of 15.34 per cent at current prices.

Armed with these statistics, they claim that the district has shown a considerable increase in agricultural, industrial and service sectors with increased growth rates when compared to state growth rates.

An action plan has been devised with the involvement of all stakeholders to realise the target. The action plan 2019-24 assumes importance because the vision action plan will identify various sectors that provide the necessary theoretical and policy framework for achieving the vision.

Nellore district is targeting to achieve Rs 4,45,736 with the projected growth rate of 16.17 per cent by 2024. This will be achieved with rapid improvement in different sectors which is along with the targets set by the state for the next 5 years.

According to district planning officer P.B.K. Moorthy, special attention is being paid to develop infrastructure with an eye on enhancing the per capita income.

As part of the initiative, the foundation stone has been laid for a Greenfield airport which has been sanctioned at Damavaram village of Dagadarthi mandal and will be completed within four years. This airport will be useful for the establishment of more industries related to travel and business etc.

The next target is the opening of sea mouth in Pulicat lake at Aidaruvu village of Vakadu mandal at an estimated cost of Rs 48 crores.

This is under process for the benefit of 17 fishermen habitations. The land acquisition process is being speeded up for the Chennai–Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC) Krishnapatnam Node and Visakhapatnam – Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC) to offer land to industries without any hassles.

Also, five roads are being taken up under the Sagaramala project for the development of an industrial cluster.

The district has targeted 100 per cent drinking water supply to all households with an outlay of Rs 2430 crores under external aided project (EAP) out of which in the first phase, works worth Rs 1640 crores will be taken up.

Under irrigation, the interlinking of Godavari River to Penna River will be taking place which will help in stabilising around 10 lakh acres in Nellore district.
