Kakinada Municipal Corporation faces missing timber row

some of the timber has been stored in Victoria Water Works premises near Raja Tank area while the remaining was rotten due to pests attack.

Kakinada: Timber worth nearly Rs 50 lakh is missing from a municipal school-cum-shopping complex in Market Street that is being renovated.

YSR Congress corporators launched an agitation over the issue alleging that some members of the Janmabhoomi committee lifted the timber with the help of Municipal Officials.

According to sources, the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) high school and shopping complex was in a dilapidated condition. A plan was drafted and it is being reconstructed under Smart City funds to improve its condition. Demolition is under process for the buildings.

An RTI activist Gunda Suryanarayana, meanwhile, wanted to know from the KMC about the issue. He sought information on the teak wood from the buildings. The KMC officials replied to him that some of the timber has been stored in Victoria Water Works premises near Raja Tank area while the remaining was rotten due to pests attack.

YSR Congress corporators and leaders, however, say that the RTI Activist took a video of the teak wood and other timber while the buildings were being demolished. The YSRC city convener R.V.J.R. Kumar (Fruity Kumar) alleged that the teak wood and timber was carried away by some of the Janmabhoomi committee members. He alleged that the KMC officials could not protect the timber and incurred a loss of revenue to the Kakinada Municipal Corporation. He said that if the officials make an auction of the timber, the KMC could get revenue and there would be transparency in the transaction. He said that the party would agitate on the issue to recover the revenue to the KMC.

The YSR Congress corporators R. Chandrakala Deepthi, Rokala Satyanarayana, B. Vijaya Lakshmi, M.V.G.K. Kishore Kumar, Meesala Udaya Kumar, Pinabothu Sathibabu, YSRC leaders Rajarapu Krishna and others staged a stir at the Victoria Water Tank.
