Chennai: Four alumni of a government school were arrested on Monday for allegedly attacking a school teacher, who had reportedly confronted them for teasing a girl student, on Saturday at Tiruvallur.

Police said Paramanantham (42), resident of Annanur near Avadi, is a chemistry teacher for higher secondary students at a government school in Kadambathur at Tiruvallur.

“On Saturday evening, he was walking towards the Kadambathur railway station, when four unidentified masked youths intercepted and attacked him with hockey sticks and cricket bats. All the four had covered their faces with handkerchiefs,” said a police officer.

The incident happened in full public view. When onlookers came to the rescue of the man, the offenders fled the spot. Paramanantham was taken to the Thiruvallur government hospital, where he is under treatment. Kadambathur police registered a case and had launched a search for the suspects.

Meanwhile on Monday, police arrested four persons identified as Koteeswaran (21) resident of Egattur, Subash (21) resident of Kadambathur, Mohanraj (19) and Akash (19).

“Preliminary enquiries revealed that Koteeswaran and Subash passed out from the same school in 2015, while Mohanraj and Akash passed out from the school in 2017. They would often visit the school. On Saturday, Paramanantham had confronted these persons as they were trying to tease a girl who was walking towards the school,” said a police officer.
