CBI plea on Shukoor rejected

The court said the CBI can approach the High Court with the additional chargesheet.

Kannur: The sessions court, Thalassery, rejected the CBI request to transfer Ariyil Shukoor murder case to the special CBI court in Ernakulam.

Giving a breather to the CPM, the court also dismissed the CBI’s additional chargesheet slapping conspiracy charges against CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan and T.V. Rajesh MLA.

The court said the CBI can approach the High Court with the additional chargesheet. Let the HC decide which court should consider the chargesheet against the two leaders, it said. It also refused to consider the application for exoneration submitted by Jayarajan and Rajesh, stating that the petition can be considered after the High Court issues its verdict on the additional chargesheet.

The CBI had submitted a petition in the sessions court as the special court had dismissed the petition last year.

Abdul Shukoor, a native of Ariyil, was stabbed and beaten to death allegedly by CPM workers on February 20, 2012. The incident followed an attack by IUML workers on the car in which P. Jayarajan and T.V. Rajesh were travelling. Both the leaders were later admitted to co-operative hospital, Taliparambu, from where they allegedly conspired to murder the IUML worker, according to the CBI.
