Hyderabad: Row erupts in Nawab family after Fazal Jah Bahadur's death

Hyderabad: Hardly a day after the death of Fazal Jah Bahadur, the last son of Nizam VII Osman Ali Khan, chinks appeared in the royal family. In response to reports about Fazal Jah being survived by a son, Fazeelath Khan, and wife, Ms S.B. Waris Unnisa Begum, daughter of the late Bhojath Jah Bahadur and brother of Fazal Jah, came out with a statement. “I would like to clarify that information given by Najaf Ali Khan, president of the Nizam Family Welfare Association and grandson of the seventh Nizam, is false. My uncle was issueless and he had no children,” she said.

Unnisa Begum said details could be given by Nizam Trust secretary Syed Abdul Majid who was not available for comments, despite repeated attempts.

Meanwhile, Nawab Najaf Ali Khan, who was drawn into the issue, said Fazal Jah had an adopted son.

“We were in a state of mourning on Sunday. Fazal Jah Bahadur adopted a son at a very young age and took care of his education, which is why he excelled and became a doctor,” he said, adding that they did not differentiate between a son and an adopted one.

Mr Najaf Ali Khan said he got phone calls from various members of his family lending support to him on this issue. Sources said fissures in the family could be due to financial and ancestral property matters.
