Kolkata: Even before the rage and anger over a photograph of Nirav Modi, the main accused in Rs 11,400 crore bank fraud, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Davos has cooled down, the West Bengal BJP has swung into action, releasing photographs of state Finance Minister Amit Mitra with founder of Gitanjali Gems Mehul Choksi who is on the run in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case.
The pictures were tweeted by West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh with a post that those were of Bengal Global Business Summit organised in Mumbai in July, 2017.
"Wht (what) would Didi's (Mamata Banerjee) comments now be on these pictures? How will Amit Babu (Amit Mitra) react to them? Wht (what) will the so called leaders of TMC have to say to the camaraderie and closeness that was evident between Amit Mitra and Mehul Chokshi during Bengal Business Summit organised in Mumbai on 4/07/17," the tweet read.

Ghosh also attacked Mamata Banerjee for cornering the Centre in connection with the PNB fraud case and questioned the proximity between the state finance minister and Mehul Choksi.
West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh told news agency ANI and clarified that Nirav Modi was invited by an organisation to Davos and was not a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's delegation, as alleged by the Opposition.
"Nirav Modi was invited by an organisation to Davos. He wasn't part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's delegation. The Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) is writing a letter to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley about it when her own minister Amit Mitra knows Mehul Choksi. He was invited to Bengal Business Summit 2017-18. What right do they have to blame BJP?," Ghosh questioned.
West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra responded to Ghosh's claim and said: "This is no secret, the information is on government website. Do I have a personal relationship with him?"
The photographs and the press release of Gems and Jewellery Round-table were, however, removed from the Bengal Global Business Summit website during the day.
Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee said the release of photographs by the state BJP was an attempt to divert attention from the real scam....
