Student, 13, accused of theft goes missing

Boy writes of embarrassment at being singled out.

Hyderabad: A Class VII student went missing from school at Huzurnagar in Nalgonda on Thursday, leaving behind a note alleging that he was being harassed by the school’s correspondent and two other students. The note indicated that he would end his life. Police has not been able to track down the boy. Officials of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has sent notices to higher officials asking them to investigate the case and trace the boy immediately.

G. Nagarjuna Reddy, 13, a native of Kothur village and a student of Chaitanya Concept School, left his hostel adjacent to the school on Thursday evening and did not return. Hostel officials found the note and alerted the police. “He wrote that he was harassed by school correspondent Damodar Reddy and two other students. The note stated that he would end his life and they would be responsible for his suicide,” said Huzur-nagar sub inspector A. Ranjit Reddy.

According to officials, Nagarjuna was questioned by the school correspondent over a theft that occurred in the hostel two days ago. “Someone lost '500 in the hostel, and Nagar-juna was accused of stealing it. Though he denied the accusation, two students and the correspondent allegedly insisted he did it,” said a police official. Nagarjuna’s note indicated that he felt embarrassed and harassed at being singled out in public by the school official. Cops said that the search was on and teams were looking for the child in different places.
