Pay arrears likely after civic polls
Hyderabad: Discontent is brewing among state employees over the long delay in paying Pay Revision Commission arrears, totalling Rs 3,000 crore. The government accepted the 10th PRC on February 5 last year, providing staff 43 per cent fitment. It was to be implemented from June 2, 2014. The revised salaries came into effect from March 2015, but the arrears for eight months is pending.
The government first considered adding the amount to the GPF accounts. Then there was speculation that 50 per cent would be paid in three instalments, and the rest would be given out as five-year bonds. That did not happen either. Finance secretary N. Shiv Shanker said arrears would be cleared as per the wishes of the staff, while a TRS legislator hinted that there would be “good news” after conclusion of the municipal polls in Warangal and Khammam.
