Governor gets a nasty surprise at Gandhi Hospital

The Governor inspected the in-patient, out-patient, and general wards at the hospital at Musheerabad.

Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasim-han made a surprise visit to Gandhi Hospital on Friday and expressed his anger at the poor services and maintenance in the hospital.

The Governor inspected the in-patient, out-patient, and general wards at the hospital at Musheerabad. After interacting with the patients and inquiring about the services at the hospital, Mr Narasimhan expressed shock at patients being neglected in the in-patient department.

He called health minister Dr C. Laxma Reddy over phone from the hospital and complained about conditions. Mr Narasimhan took everyone by surprise when he reached the hospital at about 12.10 pm. He went around the male and female wards on the first and second floor of the main eight- storey building.

He found women patients sleeping on the floor in the female ward. The Governor questioned the resident medical officers on the pathetic situation.

For 45 minutes, without his local police cover, the Governor went around the hospital. He told the hospital employees to discharge their duties diligently. He said he would visit the hospital later.

The Governor left the hospital without talking to mediapersons who were prevented from entering the premises. Soon after the Governor left, the hospital superintendent, doctors and resident medical officers held a review meeting.

Hospital superintendent Dr J.C. Reddy said all RMOs were directed to visit all wards in the main building and report to him in the morning and evening.

He said toilets were under construction and the issue of shortage of beds would be solved. He said the beds would get fresh beds sheets. A day to day report on patients will be made and checked by me.”

Dr Laxma Reddy called the superintendent and told him to chalk out a plan to provide better services to out patients. A review meeting will be held soon.
