AP CM Jagan pays floral tributes to Yogi Vemana

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid floral tributes to Yogi Vemana on his birth anniversary at the CM’s camp office in Tadepalli on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said that Vemana’s poems follow various themes: social, moral, satirical and mystical. He said the state government has issued a GO to celebrate the birth anniversary of Yogi Vemana every year on Jan 19. Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy was also present.

Tourism minister R.K. Roja participated in the Vemana birth anniversary event at Katarupalli in Satyasai district, where Vemana’s was cremated. She visited the Yogi Vemana Samadhi and temple in Gandlapenta Mandal of Kadiri constituency and paid floral tributes. The Vemana Jayanti celebrations were held in the premises of the ZP high school.

Roja said the government would be urged to rename Gandlapenta mandal as Sri Yogi Vemana Katarupalli mandal. Roads in Katarupalli would be developed. “Vemana is an inspiration for social change and his poems have helped change society." She said the Akhanda Jyoti programme at Vemana Samadhi would continue.

The minister felicitated the descendants of Yogi Vemana -- T. Vemareddy, Chandramohan Reddy, Chenna Reddy and Chandrasekhar Reddy -- and gave prizes to students who participated in various competitions.
