BJP mayor Alok Sharma to build cattle crematorium

The proposed cattle crematorium will be set up in a five-acre area on the outskirt of Bhopal.

Bhopal: In perhaps first of its kind initiative in the country, senior BJP leader and mayor of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) Alok Sharma on Saturday announced to build a crematorium for cows. Mr Sharma told reporters that he was planning to set up the proposed crematorium for cattle on the outskirt of Bhopal city.

“The proposed cattle crematorium will be set up in a five-acre area on the outskirt of Bhopal. We have already identified land where the crematorium will be built”, he added.

The dead cattle will be taken to the crematorium to conduct their funeral rites by the BMC, corporation officials said.

Usually, the dead cattle have been procured by people dealing with manufacturing of shoes and drums. There was hardly any instance of dead cattle being cremated in the country.

The move comes in the wake of series of measures being undertaken by Kamal Nath government for protection of cows in Madhya Pradesh.

The state Congress government has announced to build cow sheds in every panchayat in the state besides establishing a cow sanctuary in the state.
