Hyderabad: Scolded teachers hold silent stir

The collector was on a visit to Raj Bhavan school to inquire about the results of the students.

Hyderabad: Agitated teachers of the Raj Bhavan government school applied for mass casual leave on Friday and held a silent protest after collector Yogitha Rana allegedly shouted at them in front of parents, other teachers and students.

Teachers alleged that they were being blamed for students’ poor performance at a time when schools were short of teaching staff and they were working under difficult conditions.

The collector was on a visit to Raj Bhavan school to inquire about the results of the students. After observing many students had failed in first language subject Telugu, she scolded the teachers in front of students’ parents saying that they were unfit to teach in the school, said members of the teachers association. Ms Rana has also allegedly asked the teachers not to show up at the school again.

Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation state president M. Ravinder said, “About 10-12 teachers who were scolded by the collector went on mass leave today and demanded that the collector should withdraw all the insulting words she used. Many children failed in Telugu because they had been recently shifted from Hindi as their first language subject to Telugu.”
