Banks must support women: Nannapaneni Rajakumari
VISAKHAPATNAM: In order to further the cause of women empowerment, Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission chairperson Ms Nannapaneni Rajakumari has advised the nationalised banks, co-operative societies and grameen banks to support lady entrepreneurs by providing loans to set up industries in the state.
“All the banks and financial institutions in the country should come forward to give loans ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore to at least 1,000 women industrialists of the state so that they can develop faster,” she said while addressing the delegates at the International Women Entrepreneurs conference here on Friday.
“The nationalised banks have offered Rs 100 crore -Rs 1,000 crore loans to corporate business men and politicians. They have never asked them to return back the huge money. However, they harass rural women who sometimes cannot repay the small amounts due to the hardships,” she said.
She further added, “The Union finance minister and the Central government should facilitate skill development of women in the state to bring out the entrepreneurial talent in them. AP Chief Minister Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu has been working for decades to empower women financially and politically.”
The CM had earlier offered 170 acres of land in erstwhile AP to Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP) for establishing industrial parks at Hyderabad. He is now supporting the organisation to set up International Trade and Technology Hub in the 5-acre land at Girijala village of Anandapuram mandal. He has also committed to the allotment of 50-acres of land for an industrial park here.
