KG Halli horror: Goons open fire, rowdy, passerby doctor hit

Cops suspect personal rivalry to be reason behind attack.

Bengaluru: Panic and fear gripped the Bharatamata Nagar in K.G. Halli on Monday night when four bike-borne men opened fire at a rowdy sheeter, injuring him and a doctor who was passing by.

K.G. Halli police are on the lookout for the men who had come in two bikes, wearing helmets to hide their identity, and fire four rounds at rowdy Saleem from a country-made pistol.

While two bullets hit Saleem's hand and abdomen, one hit a 40-year-old doctor, identified as Basheer, who was passing by on his bike.

The incident took place around 11:30 pm and both Dr Basheer and Saleem were rushed to Dr Ambedkar hospital.

The police said that while Saleem was standing outside his house and chatting with his friend Jaffer, four bike-borne men approached them and one of the pillion riders pulled up a pistol and fired indiscriminately at Saleem. Jaffer managed to escape unhurt.

Dr Basheer got hit while he was returning home from his clinic. Both he and Saleem collapsed and were later shifted to hospital.

Dr Basheer sustained bullet injury on his back and is said to be out of danger, but Saleem is being treated in ICU as his condition is said to be critical.

Preliminary investigation by K.G. Halli police revealed that Saleem had a criminal past and recently started a private finance firm to lead a normal life.

They suspect personal rivalry could be a reason behind the attack and are awaiting Saleem's recovery to record his statement.
