Chennai Corporation collects Rs 12.40 lakh from habitual offenders
Chennai: The Chennai Corporation has informed the Madras high court that it has imposed and collected a total fine amount of Rs 12.40 lakh from the habitual offenders who do not comply with the conditions of the notices issued under the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act against breeding of mosquitoes.
The Commissioner of Chennai Corporation stated this in his status report filed through Additional advocate general Narmada Sampath, in response to the Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate A. P. Suryaprakasam.The report stated that 515 confirmed dengue cases were reported from January to November this year and in each and every case, the households were inspected and containment measures undertaken. Follow up and strict vigil was kept over the vulnerable areas to prevent any outbreak of vector borne diseases. Dengue awareness was also conducted to all the students in 1,469 schools including private schools during prayer time by the public health officials, the report added.A division bench comprising Justices Vineet Kothari and Anita Sumant, before whom the report was filed, directed P.Sathishkumar, counsel for the petitioner to go through the report and file rejoinder if any, within 4 weeks. The Chennai corporation shall produce the site photographs along with the minutes of Special Committee within 4 weeks, the bench added.
