Vijayawada: Workers of Vijayawada Municipal Corporation launched an indefinite strike demanding abolishing of G.O. No. 279, on Monday. Over 2,984 workers participated in the strike. CITU and AITUC led the strike. The GO No. 279 has given provision for displacement of workers, without providing any job security.
There were deliberations between the director, Municipal Administration, and the representatives of the workers, in which the unions demanded written assurance of the director, to which he did not accept, leading to the launch of strike. On Tuesday too, discussions would be held regarding the same. Basing on the result of the discussions, the decision on the strike will be taken, as per the union leaders.
