RK Nagar bypoll: Many voters flock to zonal office to seek booth slips
CHENNAI: With political parties splurging money on voters, many voters who are yet to get booth slips flocked to Tondiarpet zonal office to get it, one of the essential documents sought by party men for “distribution of money.”
At a time when election department is running from pillar to post to ensure 100 per cent polling, which had never taken place, voters show keen interest to get to their booth slips to cast their ballots, hopefully.
During a visit by Deccan Chronicle to R K Nagar, residents were flocking around polling officials with applications requesting booth slips and voter's photo identity cards.
While one of the potential voters claimed that he had been out of the station when booth level officers visited his house to distribute booth slips the other day, a woman was bidding unsuccessfully to include her son's name in electoral roll.
“We had applied for inclusion in voters' list two years ago. But the name had not been included. Now also the officers say they cannot include the name,” she said.
It is learnt from a local resident that candidates distribute money only to voters who have booth slips.
