Kochi Metro viaduct to soar over Vyttila at 18-m high
Kochi: The construction of the 18-metre high cross-over viaduct of the Kochi Metro, one of the highest points of the entire metro rail network, has started and the setting up of the sub-structure there will be completed by April 2018. "There will be just one pillar to be set up at the centre of the junction while two others will come up at both ends (near police watch tower and Hub road entry point). We're already started the work and imposed traffic restriction at the northern end. A 12-meter barricade has been erected there which we hope to remove in two months," said a senior metro official.
"The pillar and other sub-structure work will be completed in four months while the super structure works will take more time but they will be done only at night so as to not affect the traffic flow," the official said. The work in the section is being carried out by contractor Era Constructions.
The Public Works Department too started construction of a two separate three lane flyover at the junction. "Both works will be implemented simultaneously so that the traffic will be affected the least. The metro viaduct will come over the flyover and will have a clearance of six-metres," the official said. Meanwhile, the metro viaduct will have a curve just before reaching the Junction, starting from before the Welcare hospital.
