Chennai: Free urology camp for senior citizens

Also intake of beverages and a carbohydrate rich dinner must be avoided at bed time.

Chennai: A free urology camp for senior citizens is being conducted by the RG Stone Urology and Laparoscopy Hospital on Anna Salai in Saidapet between 4 pm and 6 pm on week days till January 15, 2018, when complete urology investigations will be done at free of cost with a nominal registration fee.

Dr.K.Arunkumar, senior consultant urologist, advises that in winter due to the absence of sweating and loss of water vapour while breathing, all the waste water formed in the body is excreted as urine, thereby increasing the urine output per day. Frequent urination - more than 6 to 8 times in the day and more than twice at night - is bothersome, particularly for senior citizens. A compelling desire to pass urine – urgency and at times involuntary loss of urine – urge incontinence affects both men and women equally. Around one in five senior citizens have a combination of these symptoms – frequency / urgency / urge incontinence – called as Over active Bladder syndrome. The impact is more on social life and the mind than on kidney function.

The doctor recommends some measures to be followed - restrict intake of fluids (any liquid form consumed with diet) to 1.5 – 2 litres per day, avoid drinking more than 2cups of coffee / tea per day and intake of liquids must be curtailed after 8 pm so as to reduce night time urine production.

Also intake of beverages and a carbohydrate rich dinner must be avoided at bed time.
