Hyderabad: IT corridor water woes set to ease
Hyderabad: IT corridor which was badly hit by water shortage in this summer will have sufficient water next year with new reservoirs coming up.
As many as 11 reservoirs are being constructed in various parts of the IT hub. Four of them will begin functioning from Sankranti in January.
Nearly 60 per cent of households in Gachibowli, Madhapur, Kondapur, Miya-pur, Chandanagar, Serilingam-pally and other parts have not been given water connections or are not getting sufficient water supply. The remaining 40 per cent get water once in three days to one week.
Presently, the IT corridor has 44,000 water connections. The four new reservoirs of the total eleven will help release 25,000 new connections. The projects were taken up with an estimated cost of '290 crore. Besides this, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), has geared up the 5.5 km water pipeline from Towlichowki to Madhapur with the '25 crore fund provided by Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation. The pipeline will supply water to IT hub from Krishna Water Phase-III.
Water Board’s director (projects) M.Yella Swamy said that the ongoing projects would fill the gap between demand and supply. “Besides the constructions of reservoirs, the water board is also constructing inlet, outlet and distribution lines simultaneously,” he said.
Another official from water board’s Madhapur division said that the reservoirs being constructed at Deeptisri Nagar, Hafeezpet, Gopanpally and Nallagandla would be functioning from Sankranti. “Presently IT corridor is getting 17 MGD of water which is being supplied to 40 per cent of households. With the arrival of four more reservoirs, the supply will be increased to 20 MGD. The remaining seven reservoirs will begin functioning by the end of April 2017,” he said.
