Countering Prasad: Kabini water for Nanjangud

As much as Rs 852 crores has been spent for modernisation of Hullalli and Rampura canals.

Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for a project to fill 28 lakes in 18 villages with Kabini water at a cost of Rs 48 crores, in Hura in Nanjangud constituency near Mysuru on Sunday.

He also distributed 2,613 corrected RTCs to people of the constituency, and assured that other demands including filling water in Nugu reservoir would be fulfilled. He said, "Our government is pro-poor, pro-farmer, pro- women, pro-dalit, pro-minority and stands for social justice. Rs 400 crores has been spent for Nanjangud constituency so far during our term. Multi-village water scheme to provide drinking water to 124 villages in Nanjangud taluk and the project to fill 100 lakes in Mysuru and Chamarajnagar are under progress. Drinking water and irrigation is a priority sector. We have spent Rs 40,000 crore for the irrigation sector including modernisation of dams, with Rs 2,917 crores spent for the Southern zone including Mysuru. We will be spending Rs 60,000 crores for the irrigation sector by the time we complete our term. As much as Rs 852 crores has been spent for modernisation of Hullalli and Rampura canals. Don't pay heed to the allegations levelled against us by the opposition parties. Though former revenue minister (Mr V Srinivasprasad) was from the same constituency(Nanjangud), he had not brought to our notice the need for providing water to these 28 villages. Be with us during the coming byelection," he said while promising more developmental programmes in Nanjangud.

The CM also said, "We are ready to waive half of the Rs 10,000 crores of loans farmers have taken from co-operative societies if the PM waives off half of the Rs 35,000 crores of loans of farmers in nationalised banks. I have written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi too about it," Mr Siddaramaiah said.

Ironically, when there is an acute water crisis in the Cauvery catchment area, more than four tankers were used to water roads for over 10 km leading to the CM’s function venue at Hura!
