Hyderabad: City mayor Bonthu Rammohan on Monday said Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would embark on an intensive, ward wise cleaning programme that would involve the residents. He said the civic body would attend to sanitation in all 150 wards in the coming days and appealed to the citizens, residential welfare associations (RWAs), self help groups (SHGs) and NGOs to participate in the programme for better results.
Addressing a meeting held with RWAs and Basti Committee, Mr Rammohan said that though sanitation work goes on daily, GHMC proposes to organise a special all-round sanitation drive in all 150 wards by deploying 50 per cent of the staff from the Engineering, Town planning, Entomology, Urban Biodiversity, Veterinary, Urban Community Development and Enforcement wings.
“The special drive will be conducted for two to three days in each ward and take up work such as cleaning main roads, filling of pot holes, lifting of debris, C&D waste, removal of bushes in open places, removing solid waste material from manholes, drains and nalas. Apart from removing plastic covers, replacing of manhole covers, repair of sewerage lines, removing debris at transformers, repair of footpaths, dividers, paining of central medians,” Mr Rammohan said.
The city mayor told civic officials to erect signboards at garbage dumping and non dumping points. Officials must inspect the hygiene at road side eateries, tiffin centres, hotels, fast food outlets etc and paint the dumper bins, he said.
The officials were also asked for regular inspection of toilets in petrol bunks and restaurants.
