Govt school teacher dies in road accident
Chennai: A 54-year-old school teacher died after a Government bus collided head-on with his car on the Kancheepuram-Walajabad road near the Kanchi tollgate on Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as, Selva Raj (54), a resident of Mandukandeeshwarar Kovil Street in Periya Kancheepuram. He was a Tamil teacher at the Nathapettai Government higher secondary school, Kancheepuram. Selva Raj dropped his wife Kanthavathani (46) at the Kancheepuram Municipality school where she teaches and was heading towards Nathapettai when the accident happened.
At around 8 am on Monday, a Villupuram district government bus heading to Kancheepuram and his car collided head-on. It is said the bus was running out of control and rammed against the car. In the impact, the car was totally wrecked while the front portion of the bus suffered some damage. A passerby who witnessed the accident alerted the local police and called for a 108 ambulance.
The Vishnu Kanchi Police sent Selva Raj to the Kancheepuram government hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. Four passengers travelling in the bus also suffered minor injuries and they were treated as outpatients at the same hospital.
Selva Raj’s body has been sent for post-mortem. Vishnu Kanchi Police said a case has been registered. The driver of the bus S.Mohan (43) of Keelambi was taken into custody for an investigation. He alleged that Selva Raj was driving his car on the wrong side and hit the bus.
