Hyderabad: Managements gear up for nightmare'

Prof. G.V.K. Reddy, association member, said, JNTU should consider doing a pilot project before implementing this across the board.

Hyderabad: All JNTU affiliate colleges will have to purchase biometric machines which would be an additional financial burden, the Telangana Engineering College Managements Association claimed.

About three lakh students will have to register their biometric attendance daily, which may create technical difficulties. A large number of students trying to give biometric attendance at about the same time can be a nightmare, it said. Mr Goutham Rao from the association said the university had implemented biometric attendance for the faculty and PG students.

“Now, given the quantum of students, it will be very difficult to maintain biometric attendance. We have heard that they want to mark attendance in each class which is quite impossible,” he said. “If the university is providing the biometric scanners it can be managed.”

Prof. G.V.K. Reddy, association member, said, JNTU should consider doing a pilot project before implementing this across the board.

JNTU registrar Yadaiah Yadav said the Telangana State Technology Services would rent biometric machines for Rs 100 or Rs 200 apiece.
