Hyderabad: Land grant for parties questioned

Warangal district resident G. Prabhakar moved the PIL challenging GOs 167 and 168 of the revenue department.

Hyderabad: A PIL has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court questioning the state government's decision to allocate one acre land in all 31 district headquarters to recognised political parties to construct their party offices.

Warangal district resident G. Prabhakar moved the PIL challenging GOs 167 and 168 of the revenue department, wherein recognised political parties were sought to be allotted one acre in the district headquarters of each of 31 districts on a payment of Rs 100 per square yard.

He contended that public land cannot be doled out to anybody, but the revenue department had issued orders to parcel out the land to political parties at low cost. The cost per square yard in the open market in the district headquarters towns is between Rs 50,000 and Rs 75,000 depending upon the location, Mr Prabhakar said.
