Hyderabad: Citizens ask scb to relax bungalow rules

The residents said that a large part of the Cantonment comprised slums, lacking proper roads, hospitals, sanitation facilities.

Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Bungalow Owners Association (SCBOA) made a set of recommendations to an expert committee constituted by the defence ministry regarding bungalow rules and other administrative matters.

Together with the All Cantonment Citizens Welfare Association (ACCIWA), the SCB association said the cantonment residents were being denied basic rights because the rules were drawn up in the colonial era and were redundant now.

The residents said that a large part of the Cantonment comprised slums, lacking proper roads, hospitals, sanitation facilities. Public infrastructure was degenerating, and there was poor mobile phone connectivity. In addition, “there is an unhealthy possessiveness about land to the extent that prior permission is often denied even for routine maintenance activities”, the association said. It wanted the defence ministry order implemented and reopening all cantonment roads. The association asked for prompt permission to repairing outhouses, servant quarters and annexes.

The association also wanted a policy to stop discharge of untreated effluents into water bodies.
