Bengaluru: Ambulance hits truck, patient, 3 others dead

The incident happened around 3 am on the Hosur-Krishnagiri National Highway.

Bengaluru: In a gruesome accident, a speeding ambulance, bound for a city hospital, rammed into a stationary truck, killing four people, including the patient, on the spot near Hosur in Tamil Nadu early Sunday.

The ambulance, a Maruti Omni, was coming from Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu and heading towards Narayana Hrudalaya in the city.

The deceased have been identified as Madan Kumar (18), additional driver of the ambulance, Silvan (45), the patient, his wife Gandimadi (38) and their relative Saravanan. The ambulance driver, Jayasurya, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The incident happened around 3 am on the Hosur-Krishnagiri National Highway.

According to HUDCO police, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, the ambulance was speeding and its driver lost control over the van and rammed into a truck parked on the road side. They suspect the ambulance driver fell asleep on the wheel.

The ambulance got totally crushed under the impact and the driver had a miraculous escape.

The police had to bring in a JCB to remove the dead bodies stuck inside the ambulance. HUDCO police have registered a case.
