Hyderabad transport sector faces challenge due to demonetisation

Association's president and general secretary said that their work was heavily centred on cash payments.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Goods Transport Association on Friday said that the road transport sector was badly hit in the last eight days due to the demonetisation drive taken up by the central government.

The Association’s president A.K. Agarwal and general secretary Mr. Ajay Kumar Bansal said that their work was heavily centred on cash payments. “A small operator having at least 10 trucks is required up to Rs 3.5 lakh per day to tide over his cash requirements which is unsustainable under the present cap on withdrawals. This is indirectly hitting transport of essential supplies like milk, vegetables, fruits, medicine etc,” they said.
