Hyderabad: Land grab charge at Gandhi Hospital

Community hall coming up on grabbed land; GHMC says all okay.

Hyderabad: A community hall is coming up allegedly on land encroached from the Gandhi Hospital. The hall is being built adjacent to the new hostel building of the nursing college.

The septic tank for the new hostel building has not been constructed yet because of the community hall.

As per sources, the land on which the community hall is coming up at the behest of a TRS legislator belongs to Gandhi Hospital and it is an issue of encroachment of hospital land by the GHMC.

This is not the first such allegation of land encroachment by the GHMC. Recently, the Hyderabad Public School had alleged that their land was being encroached by the GHMC at the behest of a ruling party legislator to construct a graveyard.

Four senior officials related directly to the issue who were contacted by this newspaper, did not deny the allegations as false, but they did not provide any clarity on the issue saying that they had not looked into it yet.

One official said that a survey had to be done to ascertain how much portion of the community hall belonged to Gandhi Hospital.

When contacted, Mr E.D. Vijaya Raju, deputy commissioner, GHMC Secunderabad, told this newspaper that there was no issue of encroachment and the land did not belong to Gandhi Hospital.

Trainee nurses are stuck in old hostel
Students of Gandhi Hospital Nursing College which is located opposite Gandhinagar police station in Secunderabad, are unable to shift to the newly constructed hostel thanks to the land grab.

The old hostel which is some distance away from the hostel, in which students are currently staying, has sanitation issues and the building is in a dilapidated condition, sources said.

Issues are also being raised on safety of students with the community hall being located adjacent to the hostel as all the nursing college students are girls

Already the under-construction hostel and community hall have become dens for public drinking, sources said.
