14 products from AP for promotion under One District One Product initiative

Andhra Pradesh joins national ODOP initiative for district-wide socio-economic growth

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has submitted 26 applications from fields like textiles, handicrafts, handlooms, fisheries and industrial products for the One District One Product (ODOP) Awards panel.

Of these, 14 products from AP are among the 64 products shortlisted for the next stage of selections.

Principal secretary to handlooms and textiles, K. Suneetha, said that numerous initiatives have been undertaken by various central ministries under the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat slogan. One such initiative was the One District One Product (ODOP) programme, unveiled by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). This aimed at fostering socio-economic development of all the districts across the country.

“The idea is to select, brand and promote one product from each district and identify as also solve problems associated with such products in the corresponding supply chains, so as to increase their market accessibility and harness their export potential.”

She said, “ Andhra Pradesh being the leader in many fields of innovation and with its unique propositions, we submitted 26 applications. The next stage of the selection was field verification by the Invest India Team towards the final selection for the ODOP awards 2023-24.”

The list of products has been physically verified on ground by the team members from Invest India, she added.

The 14 products of AP were the Mangalagiri Handloom Sarees of Guntur, the Pulagurtha clothing, shirting & sarees of East Godavari, the Uppada Jamdani sarees of Kakinada, the frozen shrimp of Bapatla, the Bobbili Veena of Vizianagaram, the Udayagiri wooden cutlery of Nellore, and the coconut and coir products of BR Ambedkar Konaseema district.

It is shrimp in Visakhapatnam, handloom silk sarees in Kurnool, Madanapalle silk sarees in Annamayya, Araku Coffee in Alluri Sitarama Raju district, silk sarees in Sri Satya Sai, Ponduru cotton sarees in Srikakulam and Venkatagiri handlooms in Tirupati.

Suneetha said the Invest India team has expressed immense satisfaction on the work done by AP in promoting and motivating artisans/handloom weavers through government schemes as well as the institutional support given by the state government.
