KG student rape: School declares holidays until Oct. 26

HYDERABAD: The Banjara Hills school where a student was raped has declared holidays until October 26. A message sent to parents claimed that it was due to Diwali and minor repairs at the school.

“Dear parents, the school will be closed from tomorrow onwards for Diwali break and as there are some minor repairs to be done in school. The school will reopen from 26th of October,” read the message circulated to parents on WhatsApp group.

Parents claim that the holiday was merely a distraction. "This is a clear attempt to divert attention away from the issue, with no regard for the students' safety. We want assurances about our children's safety at school. We want to know what they plan to do to make the environment safer for our children. After hearing about this incident, our children are also scared," said a parent whose son is in the fourth grade.

“We were unaware of this sudden development, and by the time we arrived at school, our children were waiting on the road with no one to look after their safety,” said a parent.
