Thiruvananthapuram: The AICC is likely to release the list of the KPCC governing council after the Diwali holidays. The first meeting of the 282-member council will be held at the Town Hall in Ernakulam, which has been booked by the KPCC.
Mr Rahul Gandhi will be elected as Congress president at the AICC session in New Delhi on October 25. The KPCC list has to be released before that so that the council can pass a resolution supporting his election. All other PCCs have already done it.
At one stage, the party’s central election authority chairman Mullapally Ramachandran had threatened to ahead with the election of the party president without the resolution from Kerala. The central leadership decided to rework the list following representations from the Youth Congress and Revive Congress, MPs, MLAs, former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and KPCC office-bearers.
“It is a disgrace to the KPCC leadership that the final list is yet to be published.
The delay was caused by the groups’ decision to share the seats,” said a senior Congress leader.
The 21-member political affairs committee will meet here on Saturday to discuss the solar commission issue and the status of the governing council.
