KPCC list keeps out dalits, women
Thiruvananthapuram: As the AICC leadership dillydallies on the 282-member KPCC governing council, the creme de la creme of Dalits, women and youth are missing on the list.
A Youth Congress leader said the KPCC leadership was scared of them, which the AICC realised and stalled it, even as KPCC president MM. Hassan had said the high command would release the final list on on Saturday.
They found several discrepancies, leaving out eligible leaders, and thus the youth icon V. T. Balram got into it finally, though on the MLA quota along with K. S. Sabharinadhan, Hibi Eden and Shafi Parambil.
K. A. Sheeba, 34, the vice-chair of Chittur-Thathamangalam municipality, said despite the norms, Dalits, women and the youth got neglected.
“There is none to voice our concerns," Ms Sheeba, previously the municipal chairperson, told DC.
"When I was in the fray from Alathur in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, it was a reserved SC seat. It is high time the leadership brought youth leaders to the forefront.”
Only five YC leaders could find it to the list. They are, state president Dean Kuriakose (‘A’ group), vice-president C. R. Mahesh (‘I’ group), former national general secretary Mathew Kuzhalnadan (recently joined ‘I’), state secretary U. K. Abhilash (‘A’) and state secretary Palayam Pradeep (‘A’).
“I have requested to include five YC general secretaries. We are hopeful that the AICC will meet our strong demands,” a visibly upset Mr Kuriakose told DC.
