Kerala government to seek legal opinion

Governor returning MBBS ordinance puts state in a fix.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is likely to seek legal opinion about further actions to be taken in the wake of governor P. Sathasivam returning the ordinance for regularising admissions to 150 MBBS seats in Kannur Medical College, Anjarakandy.

The government plans to make amendments to the ordinance and submit it again to the governor. It has to ensure that the ordinance is fool-proof and gets legal sanction.

Health minister K.K. Shyalaja had said that the government had brought the ordinance to safeguard the interest of the meritorious students who were cheated by the managements. The students should not be penalised for no fault of theirs. All further actions on the issue would be taken after considering the apprehension raised by the governor, the minister said.

According to sources, the governor sought further clarification from the government. The Supreme Court and Admission Supervisory Committee chaired by Justice J. M. James had earlier cancelled the admissions following irregularities.
