Hyderabad: Firecracker stalls have sprouted at the Marredpally playground opposite Shenoy Nursing Home, Sarathi School, Habsiguda, and other areas. Schools have rented premises for stalls though they do not seek permission.
Many small scale buyers purchase firecrackers in bulk from these stalls and sell them in residential areas.
Four days ago, the Karnataka High Court had suggested to municipal bodies in the state to ensure that firecracker retailers don’t set up stalls in residential areas, but there are no curbs placed on their location.
“As urban areas are densely populated, any untoward incident can lead to loss of life. They should not be allowed in residential areas,” said Mr P. Harish of Marredpally.
Another citizen Mr Ramachandram, said, “The firecrackers boxes showing the year of manufacture as 2013 and ‘best for use before 2016’ are being sold in 2017. They are sold in the open place in Musheerabad amidst residential buildings. They are taking customers for a ride with expired products and there is no government supervision.”
