Alappuzha collector's report on resort today
Alappuzha: Alappuzha district collector T.V. Anupama is set to submit the final report on the alleged illegal construction works for Lake Palace Resort and encroachments on Marthanadm Kayal at the behest of transport minister Thomas Chandy to the state government on Thursday.
The collector had earlier conducted a hearing as per Section 3 of the Kerala Paddy and Wetland Conservation Act 2008 in which officials of Lake Palace Resort submitted documents on its land and construction works. It is understood that the district administration has cross-checked the documents.
The collector, who got a survey team inspect the resort premises, also verified a report the agriculture department had submitted. The collector had, in an interim report to revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan on September 27, said that at least 4.5metre to 12.5metre land was leveled violating the Act and that the encroachment, proved with the help of satellite images, was carried out after 2014.
It said that construction on the wetland changed the direction of a water channel of Karuveli paddy field and Valiyakulam-Zero Jetty road. However, the resort management had refused the allegations and they informed the collector that they had all the permissions and legal documents for the construction works conducted for the resort.
There are sections in the Act which empower the collector to initiate prosecution of the occupier or holder or to persuade the person to bring back the land to its original form.
