Onus on minister to win civic body polls: Chandrababu Naidu

He said that it was up to these ministers to take necessary measures to counter the Opposition strategies.

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday made it clear that the responsibility to win the elections to municipalities or other civic bodies lie with the ministers of the respective districts. He said that it was up to these ministers to take necessary measures to counter the Opposition strategies. Mr Naidu was addressing the TD coordination committee meeting held here at Chief Minister's office on Tuesday.

The TD chief warned the ministers that if any negligence was found in addressing the issues and delay in carrying out the developmental and welfare activities, the person responsible will not be spared. He instructed the ministers to spend at least five days in their respective districts. He also told them to take a tour of their respective districts at least once in 15 days.

It is learnt that Mr Naidu lashed out at a few MLAs and ministers who, despite his repeated warnings, were still facing allegations of indulging in activities like illegal sand mining and blackmailing contractors for commissions. According to sources, Mr Naidu reportedly said that he would show what kind of serious action he will be taking against these leaders in a matter of days.

The coordination committee meet began with Mr Naidu giving the agenda, which was later handed over to party national general secretary Nara Lokesh. According to party insiders, Mr Lokesh played a key role through the committee meeting in finalising the dates and blueprints of the Jana Chaitanya Yatra and party membership registration drive. TD state chief Kala Venkat Rao said, “The Chief Minister instructed the party to be ready for civic polls which may be announced any time soon.” Mr Venkat Rao said that the graduate constituency MLC elections will be taken seriously.

He said that the TD’s party programme, the Jana Chaitanya Yatra and membership registration drive will both start from November 1. To prepare for these programmers, district party committees meetings will be held extensively during October 23 to 25. Mr Venkat Rao said that both Mr Naidu and Mr Lokesh would be participating in these meetings. He added that the party’s politburo meeting will be held on October 21 at the Chief Minister’s residence.
