Karnataka DySP Ganapati case: Judicial panel to get office soon?
Bengaluru: Nearly three months after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s announcement, the state government is in process of finalizing a place for the judicial commission headed by retired high court justice, Mr K.N. Keshavanarayana probing the ‘unnatural’ death of Deputy Superintendent of Police M.K. Ganapati in July this year.
It was in the third week of July that the CM announced a judicial probe into the death of Ganapati at a lodge in Madikeri. In the meantime, the government also referred the matter to the CID which gave a clean chit to Mr George resulting in his re-induction into the State Cabinet last month.
Justice Keshavanarayana told DC that he came to know about the government identifying a place in Karnataka Housing Board complex adjacent to Cauvery Bhavan on KG Road, in Bengaluru to carry on the investigation. He said the commission would start work once the office space was provided.
The government has also promised to provide staff and other infrastructure.
At the time of ordering the judicial probe, the government had fixed six months for the commission to submit a report. This announcement was made in July. “So far, I have not decided on seeking an extension. According to the government announcement, the commission should have completed its investigation by December,” Justice Keshavanarayana said.
He said that the final report of CID giving a clean chit Mr George would in no way influence the judicial inquiry since the methods of investigation differ.
So far, the commission has not decided on summoning anyone including Mr George.
