Hyderabad HC quizzes Telangana govt over land rates

The petitioner said the rules mandated revision of market value of land every two years in rural areas.

Hyderabad: The High Court has asked the Telangana government whether or not it had revised market rates as per the guidelines before issuing notifications to acquire land.

The government has to reply by next week. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A. Shankar Narayana was dealing with a PIL filed by former Congress MLA M. Kodanda Reddy on the “inaction” of the government in revising and updating the market value of the land in the rural areas.

The petitioner said the rules mandated revision of market value of land every two years in rural areas; evaluation of market rate formed the basis to give compensation when land is acquired. He alleged that the government had deliberately not revised the market value.
