GHMC demolition drive: Many had just four walls ready

Petitioner's counsel said that govts had introduced the regularisation scheme as a one-time measure but had extended it from time to time.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the GHMC to process applications only of ineligible applicants under the Building Regularisation Scheme, pass final orders and take steps for demolition of illegal structures.

The High Court bench had earlier directed the government and the GHMC to receive applications and process them but not to pass final orders without the court’s permission.

When the petition come up for hearing on Tuesday, petitioner’s counsel Sivaraju Srinivas told the court that scores of people who had constructed buildings in violation of the sanctioned plans were taking advantage of the fact that the litigation was pending. He said that governments had introduced the regularisation scheme as a one-time measure but had extended it from time to time.

Taking advantage of this, owners were completing their constructions. He said that some people had even applied for regularisation of structures that had only four walls. GHMC counsel P. Kesava Rao said such applications could not be taken into consideration under the scheme.
