Cannot put people to daily patriotism test: BJP's Ram Madhav
New Delhi: You cannot put the people to daily patriotism test and asking them to prove it in television studios everyday was unfair, BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav has said.
When asked, in an interview, about an AAP leader recently confronting Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti over the Burhan Wani episode, he said it was not about her alone and people should not be questioned about their patriotism on a daily basis.
Madhav, who has a RSS background, drew a parallel with the nationalism of BJP and RSS members being "questioned" in the past and said they would wonder how many times they would have to say that they were not criminals.
"I am not talking about Mehbooba Mufti alone. You cannot put people to daily patriotism test. You cannot ask them everyday to prove their patriotism. They are responsible people and holding responsible Constitutional position," he told NDTV.
Asked about the nationalism of those not agreeing to a certain point of view being questioned, he said, "If somebody is working against the interest of the country, question him, challenge him...If you want somebody to prove their patriotism everyday in a TV studio that is unfair. That you don't do."
Madhav, who is BJP's points man for Jammu and Kashmir, also praised Mufti, saying she has handled the ongoing unrest in the state with great maturity and has been consistent.
She has to take care of the state's law and order and also the sentiments of the people, he said.
