Now plus-1, plus-2 to have five, not six subjects and total marks 500
Chennai: In a significant decision amid the furore over introduction of public examination for Class five and Class eight, the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday passed an order cutting down number of subjects from six to five in class 11 and class 12. Consequently, the total number of marks in the final examination would now be 500 and not 600.
In the GO no. 166 dated September 18, 2019, the Government stated that it has taken the decision for the benefit of students and to reduce the stress and pressure among them besides making them eligible for employment opportunities.
The government stated that the School Education Department has considered the recommendation of an Expert Committee and taken the decision to reduce the subjects from academic year 2020-2021. Besides Language and English subjects the students in Class 11 and 12 will study only three core subjects instead of four.
Students in Class 11 and 12 will have to study Part-I - Language, Part -II -English, and Part - III - Three Core Subjects under the new improved scheme. The total number of subjects will be five and total marks will be 500. The syllabi and text books for the three core subjects are same as that of Part-III in the existing curriculum for Part-III in four core subjects scheme. For promotion, the students should pass in all the subjects.
