Bengaluru: With no sign of any funds from the Centre for flood relief in Karnataka and the flood victims growing increasingly annoyed at the delay in the government coming to their rescue, the Cabinet on Wednesday decided to release Rs 1,000 crore from state funds for construction of houses in the flood-hit districts.
The deputy commissioners concerned have been asked to release Rs 5 lakh each to those who lost their houses in the disaster and Rs 25,000 to those whose houses were partially damaged, law and parliamentary affairs minister, J.C. Madhuswamy told reporters after the Cabinet meeting. A Rs 500 crore grant has been released through the PWD for repair of minor irrigational structures damaged in the floods and it has been decided to release a grant of Rs 1,500 crore to MLAs to help them resume the interrupted relief work.
Grants released under the scheduled caste sub-plan and tribal sub-plan would be utilised for restoration of roads, houses and providing basic amenities to the SCs and STs in flood-hit areas.
Asked about Central grants for flood relief, he said Karnataka was hoping for a positive response, but decided to go ahead with relief work.
The Cabinet also decided to do a survey of the 468-acre Roerich and Devika Rani estate on the outskirts of Bengaluru, and fence it after evicting encroachers. It gave nod for building canals in Hampi with a loan of Rs 456.06 crore from the Asian Development Bank and decided to release Rs 143.53 crore to 21 villages of Ingali Hobli in Belagavi district under the multi- village drinking water scheme.
