Hyderabad: Furniture traders occupy Nampally

The road remains hard to negotiate with old furniture dealers showcasing their wares bang on the road.

Hyderabad: GHMC and police personnel appear to have closed their eyes on the Sunday bazaar of old furniture at Nampally even though traders encroach on a major portion of the busy road.

The road remains hard to negotiate with old furniture dealers showcasing their wares bang on the road. The traders put on display the entire range of furniture required for a house, whether bedroom, dining hall, drawing room and so on. They have no fear of the traffic police or GHMC.

All modes of transport, including bikes, have to squeeze through to move forward. If someone raises an objection, there are groups of people among traders ready to silence them.

Residents of the nearby areas say though the GHMC had acquired the stretch of land on the stretch to widen the road, it has not moved an inch thereafter. They point out that though the traders have their own shops in the area, they utilise Sundays to do their business on the road. It is really irritating for motorists to pass through this stretch.

A commuter Mr Sajid Meraj said the road was busy and vital as it connects to Mehdipatnam. “It is very difficult to pass through as a major portion of the road is occupied with old furniture and trolleys doing illegal business there. Even if authorities try to remove these encroachments on the road, political leaders immediately jump in to rescue the traders,” Meraj lamented.
